Central Africa, in Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equitorial New Guinea, Gabon, Congo and Zaire

Diet

Fruit, leaves, stems, seeds and some insects

Social structure

Groups can hold between 3- 20 individuals, led by a silverback

Reproduction

Gestation period is 8.5 months, the young are weaned at about 3 years

Threats

They are critically / endangered in the wild. Threats are mainly habitat destruction, illegal hunting and trophy hunters.
